Standardized Test Prep

SAT/ACT Preparation

Westminster School offers options for SAT and ACT preparation. Students who prefer individual or small group test preparation are invited to meet remotely via Zoom or on campus with educators Vicki Saucier or Stu Radin. These seasoned educators provide highly individualized, one-on-one test prep tutorials and small group SAT and ACT preparation courses throughout the academic year. You can read more about them below.

Individual or Small Group ACT and Verbal SAT Preparation

On campus, in person, one-on-one SAT and ACT tutorials will be offered throughout the academic year in an effort to best serve the needs of Westminster students. These highly individualized tutorials target strategy and skill development while taking into account the strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences of individuals. Tutorials are recommended for students of all abilities who want to take their test taking performance to the next level.

Instruction is provided by Vicki Saucier, a well-respected local educator who has many years of experience preparing students for the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP® assessments. Mrs. Saucier has a bachelor’s in education and a master’s in English and has been providing individualized instruction to Westminster students for over 19 years. She is familiar with the aptitudes of Westminster students and with the rigors of our academic and extracurricular schedule.

Tutorials are scheduled at the convenience of individual students during free blocks, after school, or during evening study hall. For information regarding fees and registration for test preparation tutorials, please contact vsaucier@waki-aiai.net.

Individual Math SAT and ACT Preparation

Mathematics skills for the SAT and ACT will be taught by Stu Radin, a well-respected local educator, who has many years of experience preparing students for the SAT, ACT, SAT-Subject Test, AP® Exam, SSAT and PSAT assessments. Optimizing a student’s ability on the SAT and ACT requires a combination of content knowledge and test taking strategies. Stu is uniquely qualified to provide instruction encompassing both areas. He has worked with Westminster students for the past nine years.

In order to focus on the needs of each student, preparation will be provided via one-on-one instruction. Individual tutoring offers a more “surgical” approach, which can better identify each student’s unique areas of need and focus on those topics and skills which the student needs to improve. Sessions, which are normally one hour in length, are scheduled during free blocks, after school, during study hall and on weekends, at the convenience of each student. Due to coronavirus concerns, all instruction will be conducted remotely, until further notice.

Stu has earned certification as a professional educator for mathematics, grades seven through 12, in the State of Connecticut. He is also “BEST” (Beginning Educator Support and Training) certified and has been determined to be “highly qualified” by the State of Connecticut. Stu’s formal education background consists of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a Master of Business Administration and a Connecticut teacher’s certificate for grades seven through 12. Stu is also a professional engineer. He has been teaching and tutoring since 2005, making a career change after a 20-year career in engineering and the construction industry. Stu has lived in this area for the past 30 years. He previously served as the middle school mathematics teacher at the Farmington Valley Academy Montessori school and as an adjunct professor of mathematics at the University of Hartford. He is familiar with a wide variety of learning styles and ages and has a knack for making math instruction an entertaining, as well as educational experience.
